My main reaction to your post is, “Then why state values at all?” Maybe that’s coming from my background (Restoration/Stone-Campbell), but it’s a first thought.

Beyond that, I’m wondering how often we try to come up with one more list of things that define who we are when in reality we’re just regurgitating the same point just using new synonyms? Plus, as you allude to, creating another list that defines who we are as a church has the potential to water down who we really are. It might have something to do with a faulty understanding of Paul’s desire to be “all things to all people.” We have a difficult enough of a time loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving our neighbor as ourselves. When we add a lot more to that it limits our effectiveness.
